If excursions
and trips aren´t for you then consider this: Bilbao of
today, capital of the province of Bizkaia, is the centre of a
metropolitan area of more than one million people and THE
most economically and industrially active city in Spain.
Bilbao counterbalances stress with the natural enthusiasm
and friendly spirit of the local population, it is an
international point of reference in terms of gastronomy. The
excellent restaurants scattered all over the city, transform
eating into an art form.
Here you can go
on a” Pintxos Tour” around a selection of worlds most
renowned “Pintxos Bars” intermingled en route with historic
emblematic monuments (inc 8 Pintxos + 4 drinks)......... If you
don´t know what a “Pintxo” is then how about a Cooking
Lesson revealing the many secrets of this mini gastronomic
food sensation, of course you get to eat up to 8 of them, each
one accompanied by a relevant different wine. There are Pubs and
Bars that stay open until 3 or 4 in the morning, and Clubs a
little later.
There is a
varied and lively cultural scene. For those interested in the
performing arts, the Teatro Arriaga and Euskalduna Concert Hall
are a must. The excellent Fine Arts Museum (Museo de Bellas
Artes) is located at the edge of the Dona Casilda park – a
stone´s throw from the world renowned Guggenheim Museum with its
spectacular architecture designed by Frank Gehry in 1997.
Shopping is also an interesting and enjoyable pastime in Bilbao:
a stroll through the Old Town (Casco Viejo), one the largest
shopping areas in Europe, allows one to enjoy some striking
architecture.
